ITALY, TUSCANY (5 Jan 2017)

On our second 'voyage' to Italy, we begin once again with a welcome glass of Italy's signature sparkling wine, Prosecco, as we sail down the Italian peninsula to the region of Tuscany in central Italy.

Torresella Prosecco Extra Dry NV

Often regarded as the birthplace of Italian Renaissance, Tuscany is well known for its beautiful landscapes, artistic legacy and influence on high culture, as well as quality wines and exquisite cuisine. Today, we will be tasting two whites from Tuscany, one being the region's signature white grape Vernaccia, and the other being a white blend. Moving on to the reds, we discover the grape that puts Tuscany on the world map - Sangiovese. Taste a Chianti Classico which by law has to contain a minimum of 80% Sangiovese, and a Brunello di Montalcino which is 100% Brunello (which is the local name of, guess what, Sangiovese).

Montenidoli Fiore Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2012
Montenidoli Vin Brusco Bianco di Toscana 2012
Lamole di Lamole Chianti Classico Riserva 2012
Salicutti Tre Vigne Brunello di Montalcino 2009

Finish off in style with a Vin Santo, a sweet dessert wine that is made by a unique technique involving hanging grapes in attic rafters to dry prior to fermentation, thereby concentrating their sugars and flavour.

Bibbiano Vin Santo San Lorenzo 2010
